Ingredients
1 cup grated coconut
1 small onion, chopped
3-4 garlic cloves
2-3 dried red chilies
1 tsp mustard seeds
1 tsp cumin seeds
1 tbsp oil
Salt to taste
Water as needed
Instructions
Heat oil in a pan and add mustard seeds and cumin seeds. Let them splutter for a few seconds.
Add chopped onions and garlic to the pan and sauté until they turn translucent.
Add dried red chilies and sauté for a few seconds until they release their aroma.
Add grated coconut to the pan and sauté for a few minutes until it turns slightly brown.
Turn off the heat and let the mixture cool down to room temperature.
Transfer the mixture to a blender or food processor, add salt to taste, and blend it to a smooth paste. Add water as needed to adjust the consistency.
Transfer the chutney to a bowl and serve with idli, dosa, or other South Indian breakfast dishes.
